6 Questions About the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser Trailer

If you’re like me, you’ve already watched this teaser trailer at least 10 times. This trailer has certainly primed my anticipation of this film. I thoroughly enjoyed The Force Awakens, and I expect The Last Jedi to be every bit as good. A good film trailer will get you excited about a movie, but will also leave you with plenty of questions, and this is no exception. If you haven’t seen the trailer, take a look here, and then let’s discuss.

1: Does The Last Jedi begin right where The Force Awakens ended?

1-does-it-start-right-after-the-force-awakens

There’s a shot of Rey, that, at first glance, appears to have her in essentially the same location, and looking much as she did right at the end of The Force Awakens. So, it’s an exiting premise to think that The Last Jedi might pick up mere moments after The Force Awakens ends. I don’t think any Star Wars film has been that direct a continuation of its predecessor.

2: Does this image relate to the Bendu from Star Wars Rebels?

2-does-this-relate-to-the-bendu

If you follow the excellent stories of the Star Wars: Rebels series, you may find this imagery reminiscent of the tree-like structure of the Bendu character. So, is this the Bendu, or just a coincidence? Or, is this a similar tree-structure? Or, if it’s not the Bendu, is it related somehow, especially considering these shiny metal objects shown here, with a ray of light shining on them, suggesting maybe they have some treasure-like significance, possibly powers of the force?

3: What does this treasure map signify?

Maybe this is how Rey finds Luke. Maybe this is some paper supplement to the dimensional, light-floating-in-the-air star maps we usually see in Star Wars. Or maybe it’s some other location, the significance of which we can only guess at. Either way, it’s a cryptic, intriguing image, and I can’t wait to find out what it means.

4: What are these vehicles and why are they laying down red stripes?

4-what-are-these-vehicles-and-why-red-stripes

A great element of all Star Wars films is the design of different vehicles. The way they look, the way they move, what it takes to pilot them. In this trailer, we see a group of these vehicles speeding across a sand surface, and they’re either laying down or scraping up streams of red dust. These  red plumes might be coming from the ships, or perhaps there’s something happening to this sand surface that’s causing this dark red color. And, are these land craft, or do they really get up and fly in the sky, or both?

5: Who’s flying the Millennium Falcon?

It seems likely that we’re going to see Rey and Chewbacca piloting the Millennium Falcon in The Last Jedi. But we don’t know for sure just from this shot.

6: What are these new large rebel ships?

6-what-are-these-new-large-rebel-ships

They appear to have one large downward wing, and a cockpit similar in shape to that of the Millennium Falcon. They don’t appear to be firing. Are these destroyers or bombers of some type? Are they transporting troops or some other cargo?

It’s great fun to begin to speculate about all the details of an upcoming Star Wars film. What questions came to you mind after seeing this trailer for The Last Jedi? Be sure to leave us a comment, and thanks for reading.
